Japanese 1 is an introductory Japanese language course designed to introduce students to the Japanese language and culture. You will develop basic proficiency in the four language skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing, by participating in fun communicative activities. You will also learn about Japanese culture.
By the end of the course, you will be able to converse with others in simple Japanese about yourself, your family and friends, your town, likes and dislikes, daily activities, past events, future plans, etc. You will also be able to read and write simple sentences and short paragraphs in Japanese characters: Hiragana, Katakana, and some Kanji. In addition to the basic Japanese language skills, you will also acquire some knowledge of the Japanese people and their culture through different cultural activities.
