Message from the PrincipalImportant Safety Information For DSHS Families

Dear Students and Families,

I hope you are safe and well as we prepare for the first day of school on August 26. The DSHS Staff is excited to begin our year together. We have much to look forward to and we thank you for your patience and partnership in this unique time.

Help Us Message that Large Gatherings are Not Permitted at This Time

As you may know, in a typical school year, Student Government sponsors a traditional gathering of seniors as a community building event. This year that will not be possible because due to COVID-19 and current local public health conditions, State and County regulations prohibit large gatherings to occur.

Perhaps you or your student have heard that some of our senior students may be planning a large student in-person gathering before the school year begins. For the safety of our students and community, please know we are not sanctioning any such event and caution that such a gathering, be it on school district property or elsewhere, would be a violation of current State and Yolo County Department of Health orders.

Finding Ways to Make This Year Special

We know that having to forego traditions such as Senior Sunrise is difficult. However, for the safety and well-being of our students and our community as a whole, we ask you to partner with us to find safe, permissible ways for our students to celebrate and build relationships. The more cautious we can be as a community now, the more likely we will be able to return to campus for in-person instruction and fellowship later this year.

Ensuring our students are supported both academically and emotionally is a priority. Please know, at Davis Senior High School, we are already thinking of new ways we can experience the cherished traditional events such as Senior Sunrise and Homecoming once we are able to safely implement a return to campus. We look forward to hearing from our students and parents on these ideas. In addition, I will be working closely with Student Government to support our student leaders’ efforts to promote school spirit and create opportunities for students to make the most of their experiences at Davis Senior High School.

Thank you for your attention to this important matter. We look forward to welcoming students back virtually on Wednesday.

Sincerely,
Tom McHale
Principal of Davis Senior High School
