Davis High Turf Replacement FAQs:

What is the overall timeline for the turf replacement project:

December 2nd - February 3rd

Why is the school replacing the turf during the school year vs. the summer?

Much consideration goes into the timing of turf replacement, including impact to academic and athletic programs, budgetary considerations, weather conditions, local field availability, staffing resources, contractor schedule and more.  We feel that we have secured the best price for this work in a time that creates the least possible impact on our student athletes and staff. We estimate that we will reap a 15-20% cost savings (approximately $200 K saving)  for a winter replacement.

Were all programs considered when planning this project?

Yes, we considered the impact to all classes and athletic programs when making the decision on  the optimal time to replace the turf.  Our turf needed replacement as soon as possible as we were fast approaching the threshold of maximum G-Max score.  We certainly understand that  that our Boys and Girls soccer programs will miss a number of games for this replacement to occur. We are working as quickly as possible and we believe that the finished product will be well worth the 6-7 games being played off the turf.

What is a Gmax?

Gmax testing measures the shock attenuation performance of a sports surface. Gmax testing refers to the result in gravities which is the ratio of the maximum acceleration/deceleration that is experienced during an impact.

Were all programs considered when planning this project?

Yes, we considered the impact to all classes and athletic programs to find the least impacted time to replace, however

We understand this is the most ideal time for winter outdoor sports, however the finished product will be well worth the 6-7 games being played off the turf.

What type of infill is being used?
