THIS DAY IN HISTORY:  1985 - The most-watched Super Bowl game in history was seen by an estimated 115.9 million people. The San Francisco 49ers defeated the Miami Dolphins, 38-16. Super Bowl XIX marked the first time that TV commercials sold for a million dollars a minute.

Come to Agape (pronounced Ah-gah-pay) Spring Kickoff!  There will be free pizza lunch, fun games and engaging discussions! Spring Kickoff is this Friday, January 20th at lunch in Mr. Miller’s room, S-7.


Come to the National Art Honor Society information meeting at lunch in Room A-1 today.  The National Art Honor Society is a nationwide recognized organization where members have the opportunity to receive scholarships, participate in art competitions and events.


It is time to sign up for this month’s free Financial Literacy class that will take place in the Career Center today, Friday, at lunch.  Pizza will be provided!  The Yolo Federal Credit Union, in partnership with the PTA, will discuss “Identity Theft and Debit and Credit Card Fraud.” The class is limited to 30 students, so sign up soon in the Career


It’s Idol Time!  This Friday and Saturday at 7:00 pm in the Brunelle Theater.  See your favorite singers!  Carolina Hernandez, Angelique Ballard, Wesley Romer, Christian Hunter, Shaleigh Thompson, Abbi Vemulapti, Andrea Pincilotti, Amy Fang, Lauren Duan, Simone Gamble, Xavier Yubeta, Stella Jee and many more will be performing!  Buy tickets in PA-8!

9th-12th grade girls interested in trying out for Girls Lacrosse this spring should contact Head Coach Jenn Morris: jennmorris22@gmail.com prior to tryouts. Tryouts begin February 6th. All players must have completed physical packet on file with the Athletic Office to participate.  

Girls in grades 9-12:  Interested in Badminton this Spring? Preseason conditioning will be every Monday and Tuesday starting January 23 at 4:10pm at DHS. Meet outside of the weight room. ACADEMICS:  PSAT scores: Students can pick up their PSAT scores during lunch at the Career Center starting Tuesday January 17th.


AP exams are available for purchase in the Webstore now!  $98 per test.  Online and in-person sales: now until 2/28 @ https://BlueDevilOnlineStore.myschoolcentral.com.  In-Person: DHS lunch time only at the Finance Office outside window.  If you are in need of financial assistance, please contact your counselor. 


Are you a Latino student wanting to earn a college degree?  If so, you should attend the annual Steps to College Fair to learn about college opportunities and financial aid available to Latino students. The event will take place on Saturday, February 4 from 8:00 - 3:00 at the Consulate General of Mexico in Sacramento.  Come to the Career Center for more information.


Are you interested in biology?  If so, you may want to take the USABO Open Exam in February.  The USABO Open Exam is a 50-minute multiple-choice exam available to all high school students.  It focuses on animal and plant anatomy and physiology, cell biology. Genetics and evolution.  Students who qualify could represent the United States in international competition.  Contact dhsusabo@gmail.com for more information.




It's College Tour time!  The City of Davis is offering its annual So-Cal Safari College Tour trip for high school students.  Colleges on the tour are UC Santa Cruz, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, UC Santa Barbara, UCLA, and USC.  The trip will take place March 27-30.  Cost is $515, which includes transportation, college tours, breakfast, dinner and hotels.  Come to the Career Center for more information. 

The DMAC is hosting its first photo contest of the new year.  The theme is “Architecture.”  One photo per person, submit by 1/23 and come to our meeting on 1/24 to vote for your picture and win the cash prize.  Visit DHSDMACwordpress.com for more information.


Applications are now available for the annual UC COSMOS four-week summer program for students in grades 8-12.  Students live on a UC campus and attend classes, labs and work with renowned researchers to explore STEM related fields in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math.  Come to the Career Center for more information.


Come to the Best Buddies fundraiser at Panera Bread on January 24 from 4:00 – 8:00 pm.  Best Buddies promotes the inclusion of students with disabilities.  Make sure to show a flyer to the cashier which can be found on our instagram@dshsbestbuddies.com.


Do you like debating international topics?  Come join Model UN on Thursdays in P-25, Mr. Haws’ room.  We will be going over important information for the upcoming Berkeley MUN Conference, so make sure you come if you are interested in attending!


Do you want to volunteer?  If so, Yolo County Supervisor Don Saylor needs volunteers to help set up his annual “Soup’s On” community fundraiser from 3:30 – 5:00 on Thursday, January 26 at St. James Church.  Come to the Career Center for more information.



SENIORS:  This is the time of year to apply for financial aid to help you pay for college!  To be considered for federal and state financial aid, you must apply by March 2. Come to the Career Center for information about the financial aid process.

Juniors interested in learning what it’s like to be an FBI agent can now apply for the FBI’s spring 2017 Sacramento FBI Teen Academy on Friday, April 7 at the Sacramento FBI headquarters.  Students will participate in hands-on activities and hear presentations on terrorism, cyber, public corruption, polygraphs, SWAT, and the day-to-day operations of an FBI office.  Come to the Career Center for more information.

Wanted: A few good chess players! North Davis Elementary -- just down the street from DSHS -- is starting a chess club and is looking for high school students to serve as assistant coaches. The Chess Club will meet on Wednesdays from 1:30-3:30, with actual chess beginning at 1:50. The "season" will last January 25th-end of March or so.

We have a main coach, just need some helpers to watch over games and give tips to the kids. The kids will be all ages up to 6th grade. If you are interested in helping to start this club, please contact North Davis parent Bobbi Avery at bobbiavery@gmail.com.
