Are you interested in politics?  If so, make sure to come to the Young Democrats’ meeting in N-2 today at lunch for discussion and debate centered around the latest political happenings.

 

Are you interested in pursuing a career in fields such as Fashion, Graphic Design, Digital Arts, Social Media Marketing, or Interior Design?  If so, come to the Career Center on Friday, December 9 at 10:00 am to meet with a college representative from the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising.  

 

The Davis Senior High Winter Concert, featuring the DHS Chamber, Baroque, and Symphony Orchestras, will take place on Friday, December 9th, 7 p.m. at the Davis High School Brunelle Auditorium. Concert is free to the public, donations are accepted. 

 

Hey CSF, our second to last meeting is this Friday at lunch in Room P-13.  Our last meeting of the semester will be on January 13, 2017.  Hope to see you there!

Pansexuality is a sexual orientation which describes people who experience attraction for people of all genders.  Want to learn more and eat free snacks? Come to the GSA meeting this Friday at lunch in Room L-20 above the library.

 

ACADEMICS:  Hey sophomores! Link Crew will be hosting final study sessions on the 13th, 15th and 16th in L-23, Mr. Williams’ room.  Hours on the 13th and 16th will be from 2:30-4:30.   On the 15th, study hours will be from 12:10-5:00.  You can study by yourself or get tutored by Link Leaders.  Hope to see you there!

 

Students interested in research are invited to participate in Pioneer Academics’ Global Research Program.  Students who participate in this online program will conduct advanced college-level research with distinguished professors at leading U.S. colleges and universities; write a groundbreaking undergraduate-level research paper and earn two college credits.  Come to the Career Center for more information.

 

ATTENTION SENIORS: Herff Jones will be holding a Parent Night to order senior rings and graduation announcement orders in the DHS Library on December 13th, 5:30-7:30 pm.

 

SOPHOMORES AND JUNIORS: Would you like to do research at UC Davis this summer?  The UC Davis Young Scholars Program offers a six-week summer research opportunity in biology and the natural sciences for high achieving high school students June 25 – August 5.  Students will stay in a UC dorm and conduct research, participate in lab work, go on field trips and earn 5 units of university credit.  Applications are due March 16th.  Come to the Career Center for information about the program, fees and financial assistance.

 

The Yale Young Global Scholars Program is now accepting applications for summer 2017 sessions on the Yale campus.  Each session is two weeks long and brings together Yale’s best faculty to provide an intense, hands-on experience that combines lectures, seminars, and small-group discussions to challenge and inspire high school students.  Students receive intensive training in critical thinking, verbal expression and writing.  Deadline to apply is January 31st.  Come to the Career Center for more information.

 

OPPORTUNITIES/EVENTS/MISCELLANEOUS: Attention all DHS instrumental soloists announcing this year’s DHS Concerto Competition: The annual DHS Orchestra Concerto Competition will be held Wednesday, January 11th, 2017 at 7:00pm on stage in the DHS Brunelle Performance Hall. It is open to all DHS instrumentalist and free to the public to view. The winner of this competition will be given the honor of performing with the DHS Symphony Orchestra at the Mondavi Center in Jackson Hall at the Wennberg Music Festival on Saturday, April 8th, 2017 at 2:30pm as well as a check for $500.00. A sign-up sheet and informational flyer are now on the window of the computer lab in PA-3. Deadline to sign up is Friday December 23rd, 2016.
