Word Cloud Generators

Word Cloud Generators

Visit the word cloud generator sites linked below. Paste in a block of text (for example, use your Recommended Read Dedication text) and see what features the website permits. Try to save your word cloud as an image and paste it into a new Google doc (remember to save it to your class folder in Google drive).

Describe, beneath each image, how you were able to create the image. Evaluate the word cloud tool in each image summary.

Learn how to take a screenshot of your current page using a chromebook. You may find it more efficient to take a partial screenshot.

(The following websites are "chromebook" friendly. They do not require plugins like Java.)

ABCya! Word Clouds Click in the gray area labeled "WordClouds" to start. Type or paste in a block of text, then click the forward arrow to see the resulting word cloud. Look at the options for changing color, typeface, layout, etc.

WordSift Follow directions on main screen. The website provides you with three sample text links to get you started. After your words are "sifted" you will see a Visual Thesaurus. How might this tool help you in research? To save your resulting word cloud you will have to take a screen shot.

WordItOut Click "Create" or you may look at other examples made by previous users of this site. Experiment with the random settings, redraw and set target buttons. You will need to take a screen shot to save your word cloud.

ImageChef This website offers many options for word clouds. Under the create tab choose from Sketchpad, Visual Poetry, Word Mosaic and many others. You may save the resulting image by clicking on "more" and choosing Blog/Forum. The image will redisplay as a JPG which you may right-click and save to Google drive.
