THIS DAY IN HISTORY: 1862- U.S President Lincoln issued the preliminary Emancipation Proclamation. It stated that all slaves held within rebel states would be free as of January 1, 1863.

 Hey Key Clubbers! There will be registration at lunch in front of S-12. It costs $11.50 to register and old members must bring their spring hour’s sheet.

 

Guys, gals, and non-binary pals! Interested in getting involved with the LGBTQ Community? Come to the GSA meeting today at lunch in Mr. Moore’s room P-21, on the second floor near the elevator!

 

Asian Student Union is finally holding their first meeting in room L-14 @ lunch. We will be discussing future plans and playing games!

 

Do you like debating controversial topics? If yes, come to N-2 for DHS Politics Club. This week’s discussion is on Religious Freedom vs. Civil Rights.

DSHS will offer the PSAT/NMSQT on Saturday 10/14!! The cost is $24.00. There are NO Refunds and no transfers. Sales end 10/3. There are a limited number of tests available. If you feel this is a financial hardship, please contact your counselor immediately. A PSAT/NMSQT Student Guide containing further information regarding the test, scholarship, and sample questions is available to any student who purchases the test. Come to the Testing Coordinator office in the admin office for a copy.

Juniors only: Online purchasing is available 9/5-10/3 @ dshs.djusd.net

Sophomores: Online purchasing is available 9/18-10/3 @ dshs.djusd.net and is subject to availability.

In-person sign-ups will be held during lunch only, 9/25-10/3 at the Finance Office outside window.

Students or parents can pay in person via credit card, cash or check payable to Davis High School or DHS.

 

Picture Make-Up Day is Tuesday, September 26 @ the North Gym. If you missed your chance to take your picture ID or didn’t get your ASB print out, this is your chance. Don’t forget!

 

The Hurricane Harvey School Supply and Shirt Drive is taking place now through Friday, 9/29. Please bring school supplies and DHS shirts to the boxes in the front office.

 

CLUBS:

Register for the National Honor Society! We will be outside S-12 from 9/18 through 9/29. Bring $5 dollars and a transcript from last semester. Active members should also bring hour’s sheet. We look forward to seeing you there!

 

Do you make long-lasting friendships? Join The Best Buddies Club, we create opportunities for friendships between students with and without intellectual and developmental disabilities. We meet every Wednesday at lunch in C-4. See you there!

 

CAREERS:

If you are interested in community service, social service and personal growth, you may want to join The Youth Leadership Davis Program. Students participate in social and ethical discussions and will be trained as interns at the Davis Interfaith Rotating Winter Shelter. Come to the Career Center for more information.

 

Do you want to explore the world? If so, Rustic Pathways will be on the quad at lunch on Tuesday, September 26 to talk about their summer and spring break programs that will allow you to explore other cultures and see the world. Come to the Career Center for more information.

McFarland, USA will be shown as an opportunity of DHS Students who are learning English as a second language or have been reclassified English fluent proficient to spend time together. Any student who is a member of our English Language Department may attend, and they are welcome to bring their friends and/ or families. See you there!

 

Many students have concerns about new and old school policies ranging from the bell schedule to not having candy announcements. If you have any questions comments or concerns about the school, please come to the ever Blue Devil Town Hall on today @ lunch in N1-A and voice your opinion to your school Board Representative.

TODAY: Mindfulness training begins today from 2:45 to 3:15 in room O-5. Mindfulness is the practice of paying attention to our present moment sensations. Who should practice mindfulness? Everyone who would like to feel calmer, more connected, and generally happier. For more information contact Ms. Tabor in O-5.

 

Join a group of DHS students as we answer questions about college and learn “HOW TO PLAY THE COLLEGE GAME” provided in a partnership between Sacramento City College and Davis Senior High School. First session starts today @ 2:35pm (end of school day) at the library. Join this new College Readiness program at DHS!

Friday, September 22nd is the deadline for summiting information and articles for the October Davis High School PTA newsletter. Please send news, announcement, etc. to the DSH PTA Media Listserve at DHSPTA@mailman.dcn.org. Be sure to include your name, email address and phone number in case the newsletter editor has some questions about your submission and also note that not every submission will be automatically included. Inclusion is at the discretion of our communications committee and is subject to timing, the appropriate venue(s), and frequency of the request(s). The newsletter is ONLY communication tool that reaches ALL DHS families, whether they have internet access or not. The newsletter is generally published around the first of the month. This is a great way to inform, notify or enlist parents help for DHS school and student activities.
